Double the Distance

Dawn needs you to go get some milk from the store. But outside everywhere is high in ionising radiation.  Try and keep your dose low as you find the store, get the milk and return home, before your dose intake kills you!

I hope you find this concept different to the usual types of games and if you love or hate the game, let me know! I want to improve or expand on the game if I get enough feedback.

The game isn't complete as I have bigger plans for this. I submitted into the GMTK20 GameJam just to reach an Audience that would increase chances of recieving valuable feedback. I'm not in this to win. I'm in this to learn and progress as a game developer. So 

Aim of the Game:

Get to the store and back with the correct milk to finish the game. Beware not to get too much dose. Receive 2 Sv (2,000,000 uSv) and you'll die - you'd have to stand still for several minutes in a high spot before this happens so don't panic too much!

Instructions are in-game but please read below to familiarise yourself before playing.

 To move the player you can use the WASD keys

 You can move faster by holding SHIFT key but be careful not to run into a radioactive hotspot as your dose will increase at an alarming rate 

 You can interact with all NPCs by pressing E key

During dialogue you can press E key to skip the text and also to move onto the next sequence of dialogue.

 To pause the game press ESCAPE key and again to unpause.

You can manually resize the window.  Fullscreen toggle enabled.

 

When browsing the in-game shop (part of the game, not for actual in-game purchasing), use ARROW keys to select, press ENTER to select an item and BACKSPACE to exit browsing the shop. 

 A manual is on the floor at the start of the game. If you need to recheck instructions or view credits just stand over it and press the E key. (WARNING: Once you leave the bunker you cannot view the manual in-game)

 If you get any game errors or discover bugs/glitches in the game please contact me and I'll fix the issue during the jam so I can release an update once the jam is over.

[UPDATE - Please Read] 

Due to the size of the outdoor map and difficulty knowing where to go luckily I had a secret passageway put into the game for testing purposes even though I didn't get to test the game before submitting.

To make it easier for you to quickly play the mission of the game do the following:

Upon leaving the bunker, head down and left until you find an opening.

Head left towards the river. Go up the steps onto the raised land.

Go up towards the wood that lays over the river. Cross the river and          head down a bit. You'll notice a break in the grass edge on the left. Walk left into it and keep going until you hit an invisible wall. 

From here go up, you'll hit another wall. Go right, then up, then left then  up and so on until you reach the edge of the lake.

 Go right till you reach the waterfall and hit another invisible wall. Down   and right and go all the way right back towards the bunker. You're being   directed to behind the bunker.

Once behind the bunker you'll see a staircase. Go to the far right if it and enter it by moving left into it.

You'll come out from behind a row of bunkers. Go left and down. Follow the fence to the right until you see an opening.

Go down and then right, following the road. You should see a bunker with an open door and a green light above, as well as cones and a wait line. Go up and into the door. You're at the store!

Sounds like a lot of effort but once you've figured it out you can reuse the route to get different endings.

Otherwise, figure out where the store is yourself. The map is so big because we plan on expanding on this game once the jam is over. Any feedback will greatly help us improve the game before we delve into this.
